We have planning permission for a two-megawatt wind turbine on the South Queensway Enviro21 Park.
Prior to applying for planning permission, we undertook a full environmental impact assessment. In addition, a year-long meteorological study, assisted by a temporary wind monitoring mast, found the site to have an excellent wind profile for generating renewable energy.
Our turbine could generate an equivalent amount of electricity to power approximately 1,000 homes.
We have received considerable support from the community for the turbine in consulting local businesses, residents and students. No fewer than 91% were in favour of wind power in the UK and 77% supported wind power generation on the South Queensway site.
We plan to install the turbine in 2011.
